Empowering Black women, strengthening communities, and improving lives since 2015.

KAPAAW, Incorporated develops the potential of Black women through community impact, training, and leadership development. Since 2015, KAPAAW has been serving Lexington, KY and surrounding areas.

Today, KAPAAW impacts our community through programs including Girls Who Lead, a mentoring program for girls in middle and high school. KAPAAW offers many other programs that serve a wide range of needs in the community. rts.

Our Mission

KAPAAW is an organization of women committed to promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of Black women, and improving communities through the effective action and leadership of trained volunteers. Our purpose is primarily educational and charitable. 

To carry out its mission, we strive to: 

  • Collaborate to accomplish more together,

  • Maintain a strong sense of community  providing a foundation of inclusion to make a greater impact in Kentucky,

  • Empower Black women which is necessary to create positive, lasting societal changes in Kentucky.

Our Purpose

  • To use the unique power of Black women's leadership abilities to transform communities for the better allowing us to make a collective difference

  • To live the value of Respect by demonstrating unconditional positive regard for others.  

  • Provide advocacy for Black women and their families

  • Provide educational programs that enhance knowledge and promote continuing professional growth

  • To build core relationships with Black women and their families. We choose to serve these women and invest our time and resources to create lasting change in their lives and the community they reside in.

Founded in 2015, KAPAAW is the first of its kind in the state of Kentucky. We are a community service oriented organization dedicated to promoting serving underserved and marginalized Black families, while developing the potential of our Black women volunteers, and improving the community of Lexington and surrounding areas through the effective action and leadership of our volunteers.

MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS

  • Exposure to the operations of community volunteer organizations

MEMBERSHIP CRITERIA

  • Must be at least 18 years of age 

  • Reside within the Lexington OR Louisville area

  • Demonstrate an interest in voluntarism and a commitment to community service

  • Show an interest in developing potential for voluntary community participation
