Mentorship

At KAPAAW, our youth programs are more than just activities – they're opportunities to empower the next generation and strengthen our community. By integrating the Targeting Life Skills Model (TLS), developed by Hendricks at Iowa State University, we equip young girls with essential life skills across personal, social, and cognitive domains. Here's how our programs benefit the community:
1. Comprehensive Skill Development: Our programs instill twelve critical life skills, promoting positive youth outcomes and guiding girls towards success and leadership.

2. Mentorship Opportunities: Through our youth mentoring program, girls in middle and high school receive guidance and support, fostering personal growth and empowerment. Tailored workshops within the Girls Who Lead community mentoring program provide further enrichment and skill development.

3. Annual Girls Who Lead Conference: Join us for our highly anticipated Girls Who Lead Conference, attracting over 100 girls annually! Open to ages 9 to 18, this event brings together local leaders, experts, and enthusiastic attendees for a day of inspiration, motivation, and empowerment. With focus areas that change annually, our conference laser-focuses on preparing girls for community service, college readiness, and scholarship applications.

4. Empowering Workshops: Our conference workshops and community girl who lead mentoring sessions empower girls to make smart decisions, build confidence, and develop skills they can apply in various aspects of their lives – at school, at home, and among their peers.

5. Community Partnership: Presented in partnership with sponsors and supportive local businesses, our conferences provide a platform for community engagement and collaboration.

6. Readiness Programs: Our programs go beyond skill development to prepare girls and boys for college and scholarship applications. Through initiatives like Prestige Academy, freshmen receive ACT prep resources coupled with community service, ensuring they are college and scholarship application ready by the end of their junior year.
